MEET MRS. HANDWORK

Hello and welcome to my classroom! My name is Mrs. Handwork, and I am absolutely delighted to be back teaching second grade at St. Paul Catholic School this year! This marks my 32nd year in education, and I can honestly say that my enthusiasm for teaching is just as strong today as it was on my very first day in the classroom. After spending the last seven years at St. Paul, I have developed such a deep appreciation for our school community, and I feel very fortunate to be part of it. I am excited for another year filled with learning, laughter, and lots of wonderful memories! I earned my teaching certificate from Michigan State University and my master’s degree in Reading from Wayne State University. I have always loved learning myself, and I hope to pass that love of learning along to my students each year.I am a lifelong resident of Grosse Pointe and feel very fortunate to have grown up in such a wonderful community. I attended St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic School and Grosse Pointe South High School, and aside from my college years and a few years living in Colorado, Grosse Pointe has always been home. I currently live in Grosse Pointe Farms with my wonderful husband, Pete, our three children—Caden, a sports journalist; Phoebe, a senior at Michigan State University; and Whitney, a freshman at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts—and our two beloved dogs, Hazel and Bentley. As much as I love teaching, my favorite part of my job will always be getting to know each of my students and watching them grow throughout the year. I am truly looking forward to all of the adventures, discoveries, and learning experiences that this school year will bring! Here’s to a wonderful year in second grade!
